It was a beautiful day the park was alive with the sounds of laughter, families enjoying a brief respite,lovers holding hands,children playing. Everything looked like a postcard one might get from a friend or a relative all that was missing the missive "wish you were here"

Karen Whitman and Raine had been friends since childhood looking at them no one would guess for a moment there was nothing more pressing on their minds than two friends enjoying a walk on a beautiful summer day at the park. Karen had always known Raine was different special yet it hadn't mattered to either of them they were friends. And somehow during the current publicity of the new Species they had managed to stay that way.

"Are you sure you want to go thru with this?" Raine asked, this could be dangerous most of them are a bunch of fanatics if they catch us at this.. Karen place her hand on Raine's should, "hey don't worry this will be a piece of cake this is no different than those times we snuck out after everyone was asleep as teenagers." Raine stopped walking people passed by and around them glancing at the two striking women.

Karen tall and blonde with eyes the shade of violets, and Raine petite and brunette with eyes the color of jade. Raine shook her head "wrong this time they could hurt you badly, possibly even kill you before I can get you out". Raine grinned ruefully walking on," besides if you think my mother didn't know your nuts." Karen gaped, starting forward again grabbing Raine's arm What??!! No!! But she never said anything. Raine smiled "no it was kind of an unspoken thing between us I knew she knew and she knew that I knew."

Lost in fond memories they laughed. Raine slowly sobered. "Karen, maybe we're crazy for trusting these people, an anonymous call to the cops would work just as well." With the security on these scientists theres no way you'll get close enough. And just supposing you do they may not believe you they'll lock you up as a nut.

Raine sighed, maybe I should go I'll stand a better chance. Karen hooted "o right the minute that your near them Daniels will know your coming they'll assume you've been sent to kill them and next thing we know you'll be on the National Glitter as a real live specimen of the new species." Right there beside the picture of Bigfoot having Elvis's baby." Is that what you want? " Raine slowed "No, I can't say that appeals." she grimaced.

Karen's voice took on a serious tone.Theres always a chance the police wont believe you either a chemical no one's ever heard of before on the paper supplies for the Institute. It sounds even incredulous to me and I'm your friend, chances are the cops wont buy it for a moment. And their most obvious question why? That would require more attention to yourself than you want them to have or they need. Karen dropped her arm around Raine and hugged her lets give these people a chance it can still work.

Raine mummered. "maybe I'm worrying for nothing we still have a week according to our source you may not be even successful." Karen bumped Raine's hip with hers," hah ye of little faith I have a date tonight with Ed hows that for successful?" Raine's lips quirked at the corner , "how did you manage that wait scratch that when did you manage that?"

Karen looked mischievous in spite of the situation. A couple of days after we talked about them planning to poison the Quigley Institute. I just happened to be roller blading on the campus and managed to loose my balance into this gentleman's lap as he was lunching and imagine my surprise when I discovered he was none other than Dr Ed Tate. "He's gorgeous,smart and a Dr my mother will be ecstatic this wont be a hardship at all."

Raine shook her head resigned, "your a menace who talked who into this?" Karen replied," we talked each other into this you know the thought of all those people being driven insane all to get to one old man has been keeping you awake nites." Karen stopped suddenly grabbing Raine's arm. "What is it?" Raine asked Karen looked around blankly," um have you any idea where in the park we are?"

Raine smiled and gestured this way fearless leader. " We wouldn't want you late for your first date."
